ART of · Artistic reference

A relationship that helped shape the idea.

William Forsythe has been an important artistic reference for ART of since its foundation in 2012.

ART of was founded with his support, and the original course concept was developed in dialogue with Forsythe around a direct relationship between classical training and contemporary choreographic thinking.

Forsythe’s work expanded the possibilities of ballet through a sustained investigation of space, geometry, coordination, articulation, timing and compositional choice. Rather than treating ballet only as a fixed vocabulary, his work reveals movement as a system that can be analysed, redirected and explored.

Improvisation Technologies

Seeing how movement is constructed.

Forsythe’s Improvisation Technologies offer dancers practical tools for understanding relationships between the body, space and choreographic structure.

They encourage dancers not only to reproduce movement, but to recognise how movement is organised and how individual choices can affect a choreographic structure. At ART of, this perspective belongs to a broader educational approach in which classical technique provides precision and organisation while repertoire and choreographic work develop awareness, adaptability and artistic intelligence.

The aim is not to imitate one particular style, but to help dancers understand movement more deeply and respond to choreography with clarity and independence.
